What Do You Have to Lose by Trying Something New?
What do you need to lose weight? That was the question hanging in my mind as I watched the news one day. Donald Trump's surprising victory over Hillary Clinton set off a flurry of what do you have to lose stories. One of the first things out there was the promise of a new drug, Chromium picolinate, or CPP for short. The side effects of Chromium picolinate are still unclear and its link to breast cancer, a link that doesn't hold up in many studies.

So, what do you have to lose in this African American Presidential race? The answer, I'm sure, is a lot. For some it's losing weight, for some a break from drinking and smoking, and for others an end to the ridiculous health care policies that favor the rich and powerful over the masses. It seems to me that African Americans has been historically underrepresented in all areas of health care, especially in public dialogue where their needs are either ignored or dismissed in favor of more corporate solutions to health problems.
Hillary Clinton made a major speech about her plans to help the middle class while trumpeting her own "special" ideas for the wealthy and special interest groups. Two of the most popular ideas she cited were raising the minimum wage and instituting a "buyer's bill of rights." These are two ideas that would definitely increase income for some African Americans but are not going to have a large impact on the health of the people who live in low income communities. Minimum wage laws vary by state, so I would recommend researching each state's laws for yourself and picking the state with the highest minimum wage (which may be higher than the national average, though not by much).
As for her "buyer's bill of rights," that's another talking point used by most politicians when they want to talk about the working class and reducing income disparity in America. President Obama and other Democrats made a lot of speeches about reducing the wealth gap between the haves and have-nots, but did anyone explain how to increase opportunities for the minority middle class? Well, here's my advice to black voters: If you want your party to run against Donald Trump, learn to say "what do you have to lose?" When you hear this type of question during a political rally, don't give the answer you're being asked. You have to show your party that if they lose this election, at least they've won the fight.
What I'm talking about is an idea called hydroxychloroquine. This is a pharmaceutical that was developed in Nazi Germany and used by the SS to improve the strength of their gas masks. Now President Obama has called for a moratorium on the use of this chemical due to concerns regarding the hydroxychloroquine and the possibility of severe cognitive impairment and brain damage. However, the symptoms of the American flu, which are similar to those suffered by German citizens during the Second World War, have been identified using a Canadian company's research.
What does this mean for black people in voting booths across America? No doubt President Obama is trying to reach out to black Americans in hopes of swaying the election in his favor. If he's not careful, no matter how strong his white-collar appeal is, he will find that white collar support among black Americans is just as lukewarm as white collar support among any other group. In other words, while some groups are energized by Obama's presence, others aren't pulling for anything. On every race and ethnicity in America, there are many issues of importance to black people, and no matter where they live or how they vote, black people will have an impact on the outcome of this election.
If you believe that voting is the best option for electing President Obama, you're mistaken. While there may be some people who will benefit from a change in government, if voting isn't what you want, there's no reason to go through with it. What do you have to lose by trying something new? Nothing, absolutely nothing. This is one of the reasons why leaders in government get re-elected time and again, because no one ever really thinks that they'll lose.
If you don't want to be another casualty of the Ebola virus, you need to focus your efforts on other ways to ensure that you're safe. There's no question that a lot of this flu strain will be imported by African Americans from West Africa, but that doesn't mean that you can't stop it from spreading here. You just need to know what do you have to lose, and you need to invest in educating your community so that other Americans aren't affected by this pandemic. If you're tired of feeling sick and tired and frustrated, you need to take action now and get yourself informed. The flu is coming and it could be your next life-threatening situation.
